When i am out side my truck while it is running i hear a ticking noise, i am not experienced enough to tell if it is the lift pump, or if it could be the overflow valve(a suggestion by another dtr member), but i cant tell what it is for sure, so before i buy a bunch of parts i would liek to get hold on what it is. if you have any input let me know what you think. It sounds liek it is coming from right where the lift pump is next to the drivers side wheel well. But again i dont know..........

 

Get a fuel pressure guage.

 

I'm not not they had lift pumps on pre 98.5's. Anyone? What year is your truck?

 

all trucks have lift pumps........with the 12v it is a mechanical pump ....i think its made by carter ..i bought my replacement at the Case house for 90 bucks and some change.....mine was ticking also...

 

Listening for sounds is made easy , most parts stores sell a stethascope with a metal rod attach to the hose that you contack whatever you think , I also use a peace of tubing in place of the rod to listen for exhaust leaks.
