Start up issue
Solenoids themselves rarely fail and are probably the most needlessly replaced part on a 12 valve engine.
Problem almost always lies elsewhere, corroded blue fusible link at the battery or a bad relay on the firewall are the usual suspects.
If the solenoid boot is ripped or missing remove the solenoid, clean the innards and replace the boot.
Helps to turn the key on and lift the solenoid up before removing it, keeps parts from flying.
