SPX Miller tools./Rough Idle
SPX Miller tools./Rough Idle
Hi,
I'm trying to troubleshoot my 94 12 valve.
It idles kinda rough sometimes but not all the time. I've already replaced my fuel return valve and that seemed like it fixed the problem for a couple of weeks and then it started again.
I don't want to blindly replace parts and I don't want to return the valve and make a stink about warranty if it's gonna happen again.
I read the TSB concerning checking fuel pressure from the transfer pump but I'm having trouble getting the SPX Miller special tools.
I've Emailed them but they never got back with a price or a way of purchasing.
Does anyone know where these tools are stocked and how much they cost?
Is it cheaper to take it in?
Thanks in advance,
Peter

You can make the "specal tool" yourself. Just drill and tap a 1/8" pipe thead port in the top of the injection pump fuel inlet banjo bolt. The other option is to buy an adaptor that replaces the filter bleed screw.

Bill, you posted a pic of this but it doesn't show up in the thread anymore. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...=fuel+pressure Do you still have the pic?
Sleigher I would try servicing your prefilter to rule that out. Here is some information on it. The kit with parts is $6 from Cummins. Here--> http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/filter/pre-filt_clean.htm
Also if you haven't done it for some time try a new fuel filter. Good luck, Vaughn

This is of a tapped banjo bolt installed with a needle valve to prevent pulsations. Some folks use this as the head for a permanent dash mounted fp gauge or connect a hose, (grease gun hose works well) with gauge on it for temporary readings.

Mac and Snap On sell a fuel gauge kit with an adapter to go in place of the bleed screw. That's what I use in the trade. You may be able to get just the adapter without the $400 kit.
