Sputtering at high rpms

Just wondering what all i could do to get my truck to run smoother. It pops pretty bad above 2500rpm. I am getting ready to get the timing set at 16* and get the valves adjusted. I hope this helps it some, but is there anything else I can do to help it out some? I have the 160 pump so this might be part of it.

the reason your truck is sputtering is at the high of rpm it starts to defuel. a gsk, either a 3000 or 4000 rpm will help out a lot. with the 4k kit though, you risk floating a valve without heavier exhaust springs. try a spring kit and im pretty sure the sputtering will go away and let your engine hard fuel past 3000 rpm.

He has a 3gsk.... i'll bet it's the timing..... when does it do the sputtering? once fully warm? kind of cold? at normal temps? mine sputters at cold temps but at normal operating tepm it is fine...

It does it whenever its warm. I think the timing will help out a lot but I was just wondering if there was anything else i could do to help fix the problem. We'll see how she does once I get the timing set.

His GSK might be running out also. I cant really pull to far past 3200 RPM with a 4k kit on mine. The smaller pumps dont act the same as the bigger ones. I got my timing set at 16.25 and I think I nailed the timing. My best economy is running at 70-75 MPH now and the truck starts perfect.

the governor just pulls fuel... fuel is still injected at the (assumbably) correct time, just not enough of it to increase engine RPM...

incorrect timing (more RPM needs more timing) will cause misfiring...

Bring the truck up to normal operating temp, with the truck in park or nuetral, slowly free rev the truck and see how high you can get. If it starts sputtering and blowing white smoke its more than likely timing. Bump it up to 16-17 and you'll be good to go.
