Shifting Problem on 5 speed
I have for quite some time been experiencing slight difficulties in shifting into any gear. It used to be smooth but for awhile now I have to give it a little help. Well yesterday I was at immigration (in the country of Panama) parking my truck. I went to put it in second gear to do the last adjustment before turning it off when I could not get it into any gear at all. I could not feel it grinding against the gears nor did it make any difference pumping the clutch a couple of times or letting the clutch out slowly. It just refused to go into any gear. When I turned the truck off it immediately went into every gear with no problems. It has been shifting normally (with the slight pressure you need to give it to go into gear) since.
I believe it may be the clutch master cylinder is weak and now is becoming intermittent. Does this sound reasonable? Thanks, Joe

When I had my clutch replaced I had the same shifting problems until I pumped the clutch 100x and it got better. The shop told me if it didn't get better the only fix was to replace the whole master and slave assy since you cant bleed it.

I have not found an external leak and the liquid is not low. I have an S-10 that has a 4 cylinder diesel in it but the master cylinder/slave cylinder are the same as the state side gas engine S-10's and there is a bleed screw on the slave cylinder. Since it sat for more than 2 years waiting on parts/money/time I changed and flushed all the fluids. When I got to the clutch I drained all the fluid out and bled/flushed it. I could not get it to operate but after leaving it overnight the air that was trapped in the system that I could not get to bleed out went to the top. So when I was getting ready to bleed it again the clutch was already working.
Like brakes I would think you would want to flush/bleed your clutch yearly as well. This weekend I am going to see if there is a bleed port on the slave cylinder and try and flush and bleed to see if that helps. If not off to the internet for a slave/master cylinder.

No bleed port-the clutch guy said it was self bleeding (so it has some sort of check valve system that gets the air out-dosen't make sense to me) anyway, to get mine working again it took a long ****time to get the clutch to work.
