shifting

i have a 96 1ton w/auto trans.when i drive in the 50 to 60 mph range,it wants to shift in and out of high gear.the truckshifts real smooth and no jerking at all.the previus owner had the trans serviced at a dealership last summer and the fluid level is correct. other than at the 50-60 range the trans acts perfect.thanks.

Are you sure it's not the TC that is unlocking and then locking back up?
If the trans is shifting from high to a lower gear, that is going to cause a bigger RPM jump than if it just jumps out of lockup. Or if it jumps out of overdrive that's also going to cause a big change in RPMs. Every once in awhile mine has jumped out of OD. That has only happened about once a year or so, and I have no idea why it has happened.

Jumping out of lockup is an electrical problem on these trucks, and various solutions have been tried over the years. Before I got my ATS trans rebuild mine would do it every once in a while, but after my ATS I can use the TripleLok controller to keep it in lockup. It seems on mine the trans goes through spells where the TC will want to unlock and lock back up at highway speeds. It will want to do it for awhile, and then it won't happen for a month or two or three. But whenever it does happen, (since I do have the ATS) I just use the TripleLok controller to keep it in lockup. That won't help your immediate situation though. I've read of other ways to defeat the electrical gremlin that likes to unlock the TC, but since I had a solution, I never bothered to really remember what the other fixes were.

Throttle Position Sensor is usually the problem.

That would also be my first suggestion. Mine did that, and I found that the TPS was worn. Replaced it (5 minutes), and all is good now.
