Question Seal Guide for Crank Cover query? Which way does

Hi all,

I am attempting the KDP fix and am ready to install the case again. The plastic piece "starter" guide has a taper and it goes on the inside I presume as the instructions indicate, But will it then pull out and not damage the new seal?
Seems quite large to do that but it must, right? I am asking as I don't wanna screw it up.

Thanks ppl.

usually those plastic guides only go over the crank by a little bit. once the seal starts on the crank the plastic piece acts really like a shoe horn does and makes getting the seal on easy. i put mine on wo the guide. jus walked my seal around the crank carefully and ive had no issues with it

Hi cj360trider,

Hmm this plastic starter has quite a outward taper to it as I mentioned I am thinking it will damage to seal if I tried to pull it through.
Thanks for the input will see if anyone has used it with success as without it would be difficult to start as only a few thou difference in diameter of the front yellow seal to the shaft size. I do not want to fold it back or damage it obviously.

Put the small end in the seal, big end on the crank, push it over. Grab the guide with pliers and pull it out. Don't try and over think this.

OK so the instructions are right . I thought pulling it through would expand the seal too much. Tomorrow I will give it a go.

Cheers.

Hi Tate,

The seal is in now no real problems with that. I just wanted to be sure. Now the PIA is bolting the Fan back in with the shroud in too. Gotta start that one first. ...grrr..

its easier to do that step with the fan off but its also more time consuming to remove the fan and then reinstall it
