Replace Idler Pulley? And Fan clutch?

1) Why keep an extra idler pulley on hand--do these things break?
is it something you would keep in your boonie box?

2) My fan (the fan behind the radiator) turns by hand, but there is a
sticky spot when I rotate it. does this mean i need to replace it now or
just watch it?

thanks

Seems the idler arm pivot wears out before the pulley.
Your fan clutch sounds fine.
My bet is if you rotate it with the engine warmed up it will spin freely.

Thanks Bill, I'll just keep an eye on the fan clutch
So when the ilder arm pivot goes, is the pulley and arm go on as one unit?

I'm just curious when I see people selling these new spare parts in the marketplace...
I wonder why they had them on hand?

What happens is the pivot point wears out causing the pulley to tilt.
The belt doesn't ride straight then and tries to come off, tears the belt up.
