Removing hoses with Heat?
Removing hoses with Heat?
Did a little work on my PS/vacuum pump repair last night.
Hardest thing for me was removing the darn hoses.
For the top end hoses with clamps, after I got the clamps off,
I could NOT pull off the hoses from their nipples.(please think TRUCK)
So I cut one that looked easy to replace, but the one that goes up to the brake line I didn't want to cut...looks like maybe it was replaced before,
was in good condition...
So I applied a heat gun, and was able to pull it off then...
It got pretty hot, smoked a little...didn't see any damage but is it
still reusable?
Or should I just replace all the hoses to these units anyways?
How the heck are you supposed to get these off? ...hoses are often a pia for me...

I know the power steering return hoses are almost impossible to remove from their nipples. I believe they are installed with a sealant, as well as being clamped. I always choose to separate the p/s pump from the vacuum pump while they are still in the engine compartment, and leave the p/s pump hoses all intact, so I don't have to fight with those hoses and risk damaging them. I hate p/s fluid dripping all over while I'm working anyway.
I would try to reuse those hoses, unless the part that you heated now looks or feels different than the rest.
