Removing ABS

I have a 97 12v and i was thinking about removing all the abs stuff. the rear brakes lock up on ocassion so its not like it works the best to begin with. i realize the light would come on but would it affect anything else?

thanks

If you have RWAL brakes versus a full ABS system, maybe your pickup sender on the rear diff is bad?
Ive often wished I had ABS since the frotn brakes on mine lock up so easy in a panic stop. Its hard to manually modulate the pedal in such a short amount of time

yeah i hear ya, mine is 4wheel abs. but all the brake lines and proportion valves make it a pain in the *** to work on. i feel if i removed it, it would make my life easier.

To turn the light off all you have to do is unplug the abs controller under the dash.

It will totally disable the ABS. Other than that, nothing else is affected. Mine has been unplugged for years. It HAD rear wheel only though.

Mine had 4w abs, pulled the fuse and the abs light came on. Took out the light. It was down right scarey in deep snow, brake pedal would go to the floor as the abs kicked in and the truck would keep rolling. I would much rather have the tires lock up and skid that not stop.

I took the sensors out of the front the next time I was doing front end work but would advise to leave the back one in so you don't get dirt etc in the rear diff. You should be fine leaving the sensors on the front but they had to be disconnected when I was doing my front u-joints.

Can a person disable RWAL by grounding out the 4WD sense on the controller?
