Rear Main Replace?
Rear Main Replace?
I am replacing my clutch and wondered if I should replace my rear main also it doesnt look like it is leaking but I thought it would be a good idea while I am here?
If you are doing your clutch you might as well replace it, just be VERY careful with the aluminum retainer plate! I cracked mine so it cost me an extra day of down-time, 3 hour trip to Cummins and $40 for the part.
see, like i said dont worry about it, a new one could leak just the same if you get a bad part.
hey I just had the same question, when my clutch was put it, the rear main was dry and the shop didn't want to put it in, they also said the wouldn't warenty there work on a rear main. ONE BIG NOTE IT NEEDS TO BE DRY. No Oil NO nothing Dry dry dry dry dry dry dry dry, I can not stress it enough Dry, no trace of oil in there, Reason for this if that the New seal has a coating of teflon on it that needs to heat and attach to the crank, the normal oil delay will take care of it, as long as it's dry.
