I haven't followed your problem, but if your transmission grenaded, you definately want a new converter. Converters tend to collect particles that float around in the fluid, and just draining them doesn't clean them out enough. It would be a shame for that stuff to go through your new transmission.

Yeah I reckon that would have been the decent thing to d, huh.

178,000 miles and a #10 plate, BHAF etc........ led to the TC starting on the down hill. Went on vacation with over a ton on the truck (2 utility ATV's, bed tool box (slap full) suit cases, coolers, and 4 1/2 adults). The tranny started acting the fool in the mountains on the uphills. I picked up the "shudder dropping outta OD". I then added an 250cc Enduro Kawi to the whole mix and drove home thru the Mountains in Northern AL. That was a month and a half ago and its got progressively worse.
So, based on Dave's recommendations and the miles on the truck......I refer to the first post....

Oh almost forgot, when it shifts from any gear to any other the rpm's don't drop or only drop about 100 rpm's under WOT. To get the TC to slip when locked I merely have to think about accelerating

If I'm empty, mine seems to shift pretty firmly. But if I have a trailer behind, or a good load on the truck, it shifts as if its a CVT (constant velocity transmission...think snowmobile clutches). No drop in RPM anywhere, and I can't even tell when it shifts at all except for the TC lockup. It will sure be nice to get the rest of the parts together for my 5-speed conversion. I hate autos.

Good luck on the rebuild.
