Starting problems
Starting problems
Newbie here. I have a 97 with 140,000+ mile on the clock. It just started giving me starting problems. When I turn the key, she cranks over but doesn't start. It did this about a month ago and I replaced the fuel shut off seloniod which seemed to fix the problem. Now it is starting again. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Sean

Its an auto. I know the idle is set low. I press down slightly on the pedal when starting it. I dont want to adjust the idle cause i have the truck neutered to pass inspection. Then I will readjust the plate and afc.
Have people had problems with the relays? I know it has nothing to do with the starter motor. I replaced it with in the past 6 month and added bigger contacts.

A bad relay or more often a corroded blue wire off the driver's side battery are usually the problem.
I have no doubts that your old solenoid was perfectly fine.
Many times people think they have fixed the problem by replacing the solenoid when all they really did was move a shorting wire around till it made short lived contact again.
