Problems with DEALER-throttle linkage recall!!

My Brother (CTDkid) has my Old truck (97 CTD, nv4500, 4x4) and he brought it in to Tri-State Dodge/Toyota, in Dudley MA... for the throttle linkage recall...

--his appointment was for 10:12am yesterday (figure that one out...lol ) --he scheduled it LAST WED... 6 days ago

--he was waiting, all day for the call...

--they call at 4:10pm and ask him to call them back, no message, just to call them back at the service dept.

--they tell him they can't give him his truck back today, because they don't have the part to fix it (um, hello...I EVEN KNOW WHAT PARTS it needs, and you knew 6 days ago... )

--he calls this morning, and they tell him the throttle arm is too worn out (80k miles on the truck) and he needs to pay for a new part $75, in order for them to finish the repair...

--he asks them to put it back together the way it was before, as it was working ok, just a bit sticky...

--they said they can't put it back together, cause it's 'too bad' but they can give him $10 off a rental car... what is up with that!??!??!

Is this something that's normal? i was thinking they broke the piece trying to take it off, and because Dodge will only cover the cost for the recall parts, they are trying to get him to eat it...

BUT, i actually just visited the dealer and it seems the factory (puny, and whimpy i might add) throttle rod is rusted to the threaded adjuster so it bends even with the force of two screwdrivers on each end...lol

It's about $70 to fix said part....ouch! they mentioned it's normal...

thoughts?!?!

thnx guys. J

i had that throttle rod break on me while hauling a customers car. and i don't recall it being that expensive, more to the tune of 39 dollars i think it was. It broke right at the adjuster lock nut. I've talked to several high miles 12v owners around here and about half of them have said there's had broken also, mostly at the most inconvienant times.

It was $75, and they wouldn't release the truck until it was paid for (we went there to pick it up, and it was done, as they were giving him the run around for 3 days...just picked it up 2 hrs ago...)

He got in the truck and it was idling at 1k rpm, and the service manager argued with me that i had nothing to do with them changing the part...and started pulling out the service book, and asked if the check engine light was on, and that the idle is controlled by the TPS, it's an electronic pump, etc etc...lol what a moron..

he said he would fix it, but we would have to wait an hr, as his tech was on lunch . Sam had to get to work for 1:30, and it was now 1:20, with a 20 min drive, and the SM didn't seem to under stand we couldn't wait....he basically told us we were being difficult, and told us we could leave...

Thank you, Mr. A-hole... we will be sure to recommend you again...

not to mention they charged us $20 more for the parts than the other dealer...

man, he ****** us off!

Write a nasty letter here http://dodgeram.info/survey_dealer/Dealers.htm
Then email them a link to it.

you got to love when they charge you $75 for a 2' steel rod with a couple of bends in it!

It might help someone who knows the webpage and takes the time to check out the rating of a dealer before they take their rig in.

Check out how ticked off this dealer got over many bad ratings http://dodgeram.info/survey_dealer/CA/Regal.htm

To make the story even sweeter...

We found out why the truck had a high-idle.... They didn't even tighten the adjusting nuts (or any of the nuts for that matter) on the throttle shaft!!!..

Sam's Truck (CTDkid) is slow as poo.... he was looking at it today, and the clamp that holds the intercooler tube to the boot coming out of the intercooler was totally MISSING! and the tube was blown off!!!.... no wonder it was slow!

All the more reason i do my own work!!!

i wonder what the service manager will say THIS time...

It is amazing that some businesses can stay in operation for very long. Always try to do your own work and if you cant, take it to a non-dealer shop that has a good track record. The smaller shops rely on repeat business. Also, find your parts at someplace other than the dealer when you can.

The letter reading was very entertaining....need approval for having an opinion....didnt know we living behind the Iron Curtain!

OMFG! Sam's friend called the dealer as his 'mechanic', and asked to talk to Jeff, the service manager (Tri-State Toyota/Dodge, in Dudley MA 01571) 508-949-7474 http://www.krausecars.com/Tristate/index.asp

as soon as Sam's 'mechanic' mentioned Sam's name; the service manager immediately cut him off, and mentioned 'he knew about the situation' (before Sam's mechanic could even tell him his reason for calling) Sam's 'mechanic' mentioned that the clamp was missing from the boot...and the service manager said:

"As soon as those two come in and apologize to myself, the service techs, service attendant (guy behind the counter), and the cashier, we will then think about working on his truck again..."His truck is seen as never being in our system, so we didn't work on it...

After all-in-all when we were leaving the dealer when they wanted to take NO responsibility for the high idle, and they started belittling our knowledge, and AFTER Jeff (Service mngr) told us to leave, said that OUR attitudes were poor (After they didn't communicate, the had the truck for 4 days, overcharged him by $20 on a part THEY broke, and a truck that now has a high idle, that Sam's lost 3 days of work with...) I said 'Thank you, Mr. A-hole, we will be sure to tell everyone about your wonderful service dept, have a nice day...'

Now, i have to apologize for something that could have EASILY been remedied if they learned to communicate, and were REASONABLE. Oh well.... to Chrysler, and the BBB for them.

GRRRRRRR

Thumbs up

It was nice of them to allow you to bring the truck to them for a simple recall repair and then charge you for their mistakes HOW DARE YOU question them after several days and numerous trips back for their stupid mistakes!!!
LOL Give it to them with BOTH barrels -and they don't understand why their sales are down I think if more people would call them on crap like this and not just let it slide we all would be better off. Be sure to inform them you will give them as much FREE publicity as you possible can example internet, word of mouth ect. If at all possible always have these pleasant conversations with the owner/manager in a crowded show room
