Opinions.........

With the arrival of the colder weather, I'm wondering about truck warm up. I know we shouldn't idle for more than about 5 minutes, but what is idle? If I boost my rpm up to about 1250 with a 'high idle' setup, then is that idle? Will it hurt to idle at that rpm for say 15 minutes to warm things up? I don't think so, but wondering what others think..........

TIA
R...

Do you have a fast idle cable. I have 400k on my truck with a fast idle cable, leave it idle at 1100 for 15 minutes or more at a time if you dont have a fast idle cable your truck will develope slobber.

Run as long as you want at 1200 rpm.
My fast idle device is the window ice scraper wedged in-between the pedal and seat. Power seat makes it infinitely adjustable.

I also totally remove my fan from now till May for a toastier heater.

I regularly idle mine for five or ten minutes or sometimes a little longer in winter. I havent seen any problems other than dropped fuel mileage.

HIGH idle is BEST used with a straight 4" exhuast, pointed toward the drunk neighbors at 6:30 a.m. that woke me and my wife up at 2:00 a.m. and allowed to "idle" for 15-20 minutes. A "line locker" for the front brakes is also usefull when backing out of your driveway, back out, lock the valve, mash the pedal, make a bunch of smoke, release the valve and HOLD ON . They've been some what quite the last few weeks, but it could also be due to the shotgun coming out the front door with that LONG clip stuck in the bottom. 5 rounds my butt. But when the weather gets cold, I always let mine idle for atleast 10-15 minutes.

Also, if you have an automatic, shift it into neutral and set the parking brake to allow the trannie to warm up too. (Since the fluid does not circulate in Park)
