noise i can't locate

I posted here before about a noise I could not locate can only hear it under load about 1800rpms is were it does it the worse and gets faster the faster you go, but today I was crawling around underneath and found 5 or 6 holes in the exhaust in the part that goes over the rear axle almost completly rusted out.My question is could this be making the noise I can't find? I know it has to be fixed but just wondering if this could possibly be it The noise I am hearing sounds like its coming from drivers side engine bay. Here's a better question could holes in the exhaust be heared through the engine? What kind of noise would be heard at the flywheel if there was some sort of problem there? I took a long stick and put one end on the bellhousing and the other to my ear and could hear a little something there but could not be sure that it was what I was looking for.

They could "sound" like they are being heard though the engine. Exhaust leaks can be a mother, I just went through that on an International box truck. For a minute I thought she was gonna blow, had to pull over (sweating) and crawl under there to see.

Good Luck.

Well, if you know there are leaks, no matter where they are at, your gonna have to address them eventually anyhow. I'm doubting that anything behind that cab is causing it, but you never know, Process of elimination my friend, start with the cheap, easy things first!!

Well, if the exhaust is rusted out, it's possible the downpipe is the same way.
