New truck but a few problems.
New truck but a few problems.
Just bought a 96 ex cab dually 4x4 auto. its a really good looking truck and very nice to drive. its the best rideing truck I have ever been in and is also the quietest even with a straight pipe.
there are three problems I know of.
the fuel guage and the engine temp guage do not work.
also the TC wants to lock and unlock under slight pedal pressure when in OD when around 55MPH. Do you guys think all these problems and invloved with eachother or seperate problems?
This truck has a Pac brake installed on it but no switch in the cab. I have not used it to see if It will work with this tranny or not. If the tranny is stock will it work? if not what do I need to make it work?
thanks

Only way i can see the pac brake working is if you put in a mystery switch, and even then it will only work in 3rd, and 4th gears probably. It may work some if you downgear to 2nd when you are going slow enough. With the lockup switch you will be able to downgear to 3rd, and lock the converter before you start heading down a hill, and it should work fine. You might need a modded valve body for more pressure though(which i would do anyway)

Hi,
The fuel gauge is probably your in tank sending unit. It is not too hard to replace...but I know I would rather fill my tank every 400 miles than replace the in tank unit. Although, mine evantually rusted through on the return line into the intak unit and I had to replace it anyhow. The locking and unlocking around 55 MPH, my truck does too. I believe that is a throttle postion sensor. Usually, if mine gets finicky, I can just hit the gas to the floor and let off real quick a couple times and it will make the sensor work ok for a few weeks. I'm told the sensor is expensive, but easy to replace. The engine temp gauge I am not sure what is wrong...but chances are it is not related to either of your other problems.
Cheers,
Chris
