need help

my buddies looking at a 96 12 valve and it had a couple problems. the first is when you start you have to give it fuel when cranking it puffs out black smoke and fires up for a second then shuts off you have to pump the throttle and then hit the gas when it does fire up the trucks been sitting for three days and when it first fired up it had a puff of white smoke could be steam cause the cold start but not sure. and also when you going down the road and let off it feels like it goes into neutral but when you get back on the fuel it re-engages, it could be the tie rod or the tranny not sure? we asked some body about this and they said that the torque convert locks and then unlocks when you let off. not sure if hes right or wrong.

hi
yep convertor will lock on acceleration and unlock when you let up on fuel .

you can install a mystery switch to keep it locked .

put your finger over the crank case vent tube and se how much blow by it has after a few seconds when warm .

check the coolant level .

how can i do the mistery switch and where is the vent tube located at?
