98 12 valve , going down highway all of sudden it made a loud pop, maybe a backfire- now the engine has lost some of it's power and the turbo sounds like a jet engine taking off, sounds like a lot of air being pushed by or maybe it's over boosting- help !!!

 

Check your air connections from the turbo through the intercooler, and back to the engine. I suspect you blew a hose loose from one of the pipes.

 

Sounds just like you popped a boot to me. Look at the one by the intercooler on the right side. They have been known to have clearance issues. I have also heard Piers has better boots than stock. www.piersdiesel.com
