losing prime
losing prime
I havent been driving my truck over the weekends lately,
This morning, for the second monday in a row, truck fires up just fine. seems ok, I Pull out, get about a half block, and it dies.
I can turn it over, feather the pedal and get it back running, but a pain.
Also, in teh pasat , I have once or twice run it out of fuel, when that happend, It would not start without manaully priming.
Why would this occur, behaving like its got no fuel. Then a few cranks and it will fire back up.
Any Ideas? For the rest of the week it will operate fine with daily use.
The only thing so far is the sitting over the weekend.
thanks

First place to start is replacing the rubber fuel lines at the back of the engine. You will need a couple feet each of 5/16" and 3/8" hose and four hose clamps. Use diesel rated hose, preferably US Coast Guard approved. A kit is available here http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm
The 5/16" return hose is in red below, the 3/8" feed hose starts right about where the red ends on the right side of the picture.
Your arms will get cut up and you will cuss.
If you want to make the system even better run new hose all the way from the engine to the tank and abandon the factory lines. This will eliminate future leaks in the metal lines and make the job very much easier. Will take about 12 feet of hose this way but best to measure first.
