Locking hub conversion?
Locking hub conversion?
Hey guys dads got a 96 dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 n toar out a unit bearing a few months ago trying to pull me outta a mud hole he had a 90 before n did a lot more with that ruck like pulling 150 foot 4 foot round trees outta the bush n never messed anything up. Have heard of the hub assmeblies on the secon n third gens being a poor design. Hes now stopped working his truck but is wondering why cant the outter parts of a first gen dana 60 work on his second gen to put in locking hubs and then do a posilock.
I haven't heard of anyone using first Gen parts, probably there isn't a rotor to make it work correctly, however, you can kludge one together using Furd Dana 60/TTB 50 spindles and hubs, with 79 D60 rotors. You have to either redrill the knuckle or spindle, user Joops redrilled his knuckle, and someone here not long ago did the same thing only redrilled the spindle and used thru bolts and nuts in the stock Dodge pattern. Do a search and you should find it. I am looking right now for the parts, haven't decided which way I want to go regarding attaching the spindles, probably won't decide until I find the Furd parts.
I asked Joops when he did his, and it had to do with the offset of the rotors, you have to be able to get the calipers back on after the swap............ I cannot say for sure, other than there have been people before us try different combos, we know the Furd/Dodge combo works.
