Re:Lock up switch
What is needed is a three-way switch for the tc lockup and OD both. This will allow full control of when the lockup and/or OD is engaged. The lockup and OD are both powered from a wire running into the trans so all is needed is a ground to activate them. Find the wire(s) for the feature coming from the trans and cut them where you have room to splice and out of the way. Attack a wire to the trans side of circuit and run it to the common pole of switch, this is the position where the curcuit would be open all the time. Attach another wire to the computer side of circuit and run it the pole that allows current to pass from said pole to the common pole, this postion is the auto engage postion. Attach another wire to third position that allows current from common to it and ground it, this is the manual lockup position. If it is possible a light in a noticeable position when the switch is not in auto would be a really good idea.

This NOT, I repeat NOT a reccommended modification. If you have a warranty it will void it. Even with a modified trans the builders will not reccommend this nor warranty it (for the most part). Damage could occur quickly if the switch(s) are not positioned correctly at any given time. Damage could occur if they are positioned incorrectly but that is a use thing.

What I am trying to say is this setup will work but you are by-passing a lot of the safety features built into the trans and computer so understanding what is happening when you manually switch things is essential. Good luck.

http://www.tstproducts.com/tranny_install.html
Re:Lock up switch
I've been running a lock-up switch for well over 150K miles .... as long as you use it correctly .... no damage will occur .. on the RE trans you will need to jump out the relay in the PDC. Leave the relay out after you jump it ... see attached pic.
Re:Lock up switch
you should not need a 3-way switch either. I have a regular toggle, off- on , when the switch is off, the tc will lock and unlock on its own. with it on, it will go through the gears 2-3-4 right away unless your overdrive is off and it will only go to 3 and DO NOT FORGET TO SHUT SWITCH OFF WHEN APPLYING BRAKES TO STOP
this will kill the engine not to mention make it harder to stop .

Re:Lock up switch
I used a three-way toggle so that I can run"

1) Stock
2) Locked
3) Unlocked

I like to be able to run unlocked, as mine will lock up at *really* low RPM. When it was locked, it would unlock when lifting out of the throttle (which happen all the time in LA traffic). So, I run unlocked around town, and locked on the freeway.

I'm real careful when the RPM is below 1700 to ease into the throttle if the converter is locked.

I can't remember the last time I ran in the stock position.
It would do stupid things like lock up at 1400 RPM - while toing up a large hill. Instant clutch killer.

Tackett
- Now if I could only remember how I wired it...
