KDP tool list ??????
About to do the fix , wondering if anyone had a tool list for the rare scockets , wrenches etc... that are needed , already serched for an hour couldn,t find one on here. Is it worth buying the TST kit or just get the seal from cummins and make your own tab,?? Also does the TST kit come with the gear cover gasket ??? Or could ya get that from cummins also??? Thanks
Had the KDP done at a friends place. Just cut the tab out of some sheet metal. Got the gasket and seal from Cummins. The tricky tool is the seal driver. You need to be able to get the seal into the cover square in one shot so a drill press or good flat bench and some muscle will do. Make sure the crank is dry and clean. All the other tools are not anything special.
what guage sheet metal did u use? ^, the tab from Tst is pretty thick. It's worth just getting the tst kit, it comes with everything u need to get it done for $48. Just let the RTV sealer sit for a couple hours before u drive and it won't leak a bit.
the only socket I didn't have was a 15mm for the damper bolts. Other than that it's basic small sockets like 10mm, 14mm, and so on.. you can take out and put the new seal in with a screwdriver and rubber malet or similar (just tap around the circumference until it's seated. You have a 5spd so u don't need a engine barring tool, just put it in 5th gear.

The only special tool I needed to tab the KDP was a 36mm fan clutch wrench. I rented one from AutoZone and they refunded the entire price when I returned it, meaning it was free. Some people just remove the fan, fan clutch, pulley, and support bracket as an entire assembly. If you care about proper torque values when reassembling everything, it's helpful to have a couple of torque wrenches in different sizes. I have a 3/8" drive 5-80 ft lb wrench and 1/2" drive 25-250 ft lb wrench. Otherwise, it's just basic hand tools.
Cummins sells the KDP tab. The tab and a genuine Cummins crank seal and timing cover gasket will only set you back about $60. I went this route as I would rather use an actual gasket than the RTV that comes in the TST kit. Just a personal preference of mine. The TST instructions are excellent, however. Well worth downloading from their website and using for reference.
While at the local Cummins service center, I also took advantage of the opportunity and stocked up on air, fuel, and oil filters.
