KDP process question, damper alignment?

I got my KDP killed today, although it was still firmly embedded in its hole, even after 265K miles.

My question is this: Does the damper need to go on in a particular way? What is the crank position sensor measuring? I'm used to gas engines where the damper has a timing and balance function as well, but the cummins manual and the TST instructions didn't say anything about lining it up in a certain way when re-installing. Just want to make sure!

Yeah, I got the gap set. Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something.
