idleling

My dads truck is a 97 12 valve. It has all of a sudden gotten to where it doesen't idle. At first it would with the air-conditioner off now it won't idle at all. I'm thinking injectors or throttle cable? The good thing about the truck is there is no electronics on the truck, like the new ones are. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to adjust. It has 300,000 miles on it.

Thanks,

Kimrey

Re:idleling

Has the truck been serviced regulary ?

If not could be

Valves need to be adjusted
clogged air filter
dirty fuel filter
or with 300,000 mi. look at the linkage where it comes in contact with the idle stop
If it's worn it could lower idle.
To fix just adjust idle back up.

Yep, its been serviced. I will check the linkage on the idle stop. But what is the overflow valve? Never heard of that one.

Re:idleling

The overflow valve is what regulates pressure for the pump.
That is laymens terms.
If you look at the pump from drivers side the fan will be to your left.
Look between the pump and the engine.
There is a return line coming out of the pump running to the tank.
The bolt that goes through the banjo fitting is the overflow valve not a bolt.
There is no way to check that I know of except to replace it.
It's about $50 ~ $55 I think.
If you know someone else with a P-7100 pump maybe you could swap for theirs and see if it cures yours.
If not you will have to get up off the hip with a few greenbacks.

Hope this helps.

If not maybe we can figure out something else.

Re:idleling

IT may be the Throttle Cable Linkage.... My truck did the same thing, and I took the rod off, adjusted it, put it back on, and got it tuned to where it idled at 900 RPM.. Good luck!!!
