Hp/torque prediction??

I haven't updated my sig in a bit, but I've been putting some goodies in my truck. I got a Scotty2 air intake with the hole cut in there, and a 4" MBRP exhaust. It's going to the shop soon to be treated to a DTT trans with billet input shaft and hub. I'm having the KDP killed, I have DiPricol Optix Pyro, Boost and Trans Temp gauges on the pillar. I'm having a plate put in my 215 hp pump, probably a #10, the timing will be set to 16.5* (maybe a little more), the valves will be adjusted, and 300 injectors will be put in. I've still got the stock Holset turbo in there for now. I'm wondering if anyone else has their rig set up similarly, and what power you're getting out of it. Also, if there's some other wonderful trick I can do to get even more power without completely tearing the head and cam out, I'm all ears. Mainly I'm wondering what to expect after the bombing is done. Thanks, guys!

I'm gonna guess probably around 280-300 hp at the wheels, and probably 580 ft/lbs.

Well, that's not bad. What is limiting me to that number? Injectors, turbo, would delivery valves help? Governor springs? That was one of the other mods to be done. 3KGSK. I'd like to see if I can squeeze 400-450 hp out of it. Anything I should do differently than what I have planned? I don't want to spend money on a mod only to rip it out shortly there after. Thanks for the reply. Lots of experience here that will hopefully show me the way.

With a 215 pump you should be pushing 400hp and 900+ tq. Not sure how much power those 300 injectors make but I heard there isn't much difference in heat between them and the 370s. With 370's that should get you to 450 but with the stock turbo you won't be able to use much of that power.

Get the 3KGSK. Look at my sig thats what I made with the plate /4 forward.

If you have the money put in some DDP 3's or 4's. And drop a bigger turbo and you will have a sweet set up.

Cool. I am thinking bigger turbo someday. But I've put a rather large dent in the wallet in the recent past, so I need to stop at what I've described for now. I was wondering if twins offered quicker and more even delivery of boost than a big single. I'm a little apprehensive about throwing too much boost at the engine with 220.000 miles on it without putting in studs and modifying the head sealing methods from stock. I definitely don't want to go blowing a head gasket if I'm not prepared to do the repairs quite yet. I do have a set of PDR intercooler boots going in this weekend. I was amazed at how pliable the stock boots are.

Wow. What's a DD SBC, if I may display my ignorance? This is my first turbo diesel.

double disk south bend clutch. stock turbo makes it spool very quickly and clears the smoke good also. mine will smoke about 3 seconds then its gone. If you go larger you pick up alittle more lag, I like the fast spool up. I have a home made twin setup but I will run the stock turbo as long as I can. I also run stock timming, this and the stock turbo and high flow DV's and 4:10 gears helps when tring to get a heavy load moving quickly. Now it isn't very fast about 80 is all its got, but I like the torque. EGT's do run alittle warm but I have never had any trouble with it.

I could not imagine dring a 500hp truck with a stock turbo. Have you had it dynoed?
Mine egts on the dyno were up to 1700+ on the last run and that was just 4th gear. That was at 5000' but I have been down to sea level and my egts run high.

Most people get rid if the stock turbo around 400hp. I need to get rid of mine as on the street the end of fouth gear is 1600. Know way I can stay in it while i'm in fifth.

Don't know I have never seen that kind of temp. On a long hard pull I can see 1500 but I never hold it there.

So at what point would one need to consider all the fire ring and stud treatments I see in some people's sigs? Must be a function of some amount of boost PSI maximum, right? If you go with the twins do you need to do all that? Or can the waste gate be set to avoid head gasket troubles?

A lot of people say 50psi but some do blow around 45. I would say studs at 45psi. Also depends on your turbo, if you are running your little HX to 45 vs a SPS 66 you are creating lots more pressure on the hg with the little HX35.

Studs tend to make things good until 55-65.

You must drive your truck easy plow.... Have you had your truck dynoed?

35 is about the max on the stocker, I would look in to it if I were going to keep my boost over this all the time, I mean continuesly running 40 or more. If I ever put my twins on I would go ahead and pull the head and do what is needed, but until I have trouble I'll leave it alone.

I'm thinking along the same lines. If I can get my 400 horses or so without getting too crazy I'll be happy. If I end up bored or have troubles I'll go ahead and pull it down for more serious bombing. I definitely want to do some research on twins vs. big single, and also on what mods can be done to the cylinder head and intake manifold before I just go ripping into it.

It will always come back to how you drive it that applies when you start sliding plates or changing them, you can slide your stock plate forward and the afc forward, max the star wheel out and have a egt problem. Thats why they push gauges so much, watch that pyro and driving right and it will be fine. If you don't want to have to watch the gauges just put the #10 in the stock position slide afc up 1/2 of stock turn starwheel up until you can't stand the smoke then roll the window down and enjoy the scenery.
