How serious is the KDP issue?

So how serious is this KDP issue for the 12v's? I've got 142k miles on my 3500, and I don't plan on going crazy on the truck, nothing more than a big exhaust and some gauges for a while. Is the KDP something I still need to worry about?

KDP is something you definately need to check out. Look up some posts on what has happened when it falls out. Not pretty. No matter how many or how few mods you have, it will kill your truck all the same (Killer Dowel Pin).

Dowel pin damage probably strikes way less than 1% of 12 valves, problem is it can be very expensive. Might even require a new engine. It doesn't matter how many miles are on the truck or if is stock or not, it can still happen.
Not fixing the kdp is like saying you don't need auto insurance because you've never been in a wreck.
Fix it.

it may never fall out.

it may fall out some day and just land in your oil pan.

it may fall out, get caught between your cam gear and just break teeth off the gear.

it may fall out, get caught between your cam gear breaking it off stopping the cam with some valves open while the pistons are still in motion.

how's your luck?

Do you want to spend 50$, a few hours with a few beers.... or do you want to spend a few thousand $, a week + of downtime and crying in your beer.....
You takes your chances, you pays your dues.

Its not serious at all. Unless it falls out. I had to replace my frount main seal at 278,000 so i looked while i had the cover off. The *&%^$# thing was about to fall out . Thank GOD for leaks. I put lock tight on it drove it back in took a puntch and dempeled the case around the end and made a KDP tab out of a sawzaw blade and it worked great. PRD sells the tab for about $3 if you dont want to make one. Also check all your bolts I had some that were loose. KLB ( killer loose bolt) just as bad

I had mine fall out in my old 12v and I had to get a whole new timing case. It was expensive! The sad thing was, I had the $5 jig to put in there and just never did it!

Mine has already been done, still have the reciept. Can they fall out after they have been replaced? If so, how hard is it to fix it, and fix it permanently...I'm not sure how reputable this guy was that did the fix, it was the previous owner, so i never met the mechanic...

yep, that's the kit. From others that have ordered it, it sounds like it is complete. And good downloadable instructions, too.
