How much is computerized?
I was wondering just how much of my truck is computerized?

I heard discussions about TPS (Throttle position sensors) and Crank Case Position sensors.... how much is computerized?
The injection pump is mechanical... so why the TPS?
Whats the Crankcase position sensor used for?

I also know that there is electronics dealing with the transmision as well... ???

Also, I know that the ABS system is tied to computers....

How much is computerized?

Would/will these trucks continue to run if any of the electronics fail?

Just curious.
Rich.
Re:How much is computerized?
It might be differant on the Cummins, but on my PSD the CPS is actually a Cam Possition Sensor. It does several things, one of wich is give the signal to the tachometer.

PCM controls intake heater; provides analog signals to drive gauges from inputs like crank position sensor (rpm/tach), water temp, oil pressure, fuel level etc. Auto trans is PCM controlled to some degree AFAIK (TPS governs shift points along w/input from engine speed and driveshaft speed), but I have 5 spd so can't say from "hands on" work on the 47RE or other trannys. The PCM does control charging rate of alternator, based on load/voltage/temp - but does not control the fuel shutoff solenoid, if memory serves...
-Scott
