When are head studs needed over Stock head bolts ?

How much do head studs cost ? (average)

Where does one buy them ?

 

I recently asked about studs also, I think in one of your threads. It seems not many people are around anymore.

I thought there were at least 2 or maybe three different studs out, being different material and strenghts, but now it seems everyone is using arp's. The standard 12 mm arp's are 449 from summit or jegs, and I ve found them advertised for as low as 395 ish.....

 

you also have to machine your rockers with those studs. you dont have to on the 625 studs which are stonger but can cost $1000 to $1400. ouch

Does the head have to come off to machine the rockers? How much has to come off?

I thought the machining of the rockers was for valve cover clearance. Can we just get taller covers, or clearance the existing covers?
