Gear ratios and towing.

I am looking at a 96 3/4 ton with auto and axle ratios 0f 3.54 to 1.
Can I safely tow my 32ft TT which weighs about 8600lbs?
Would the 3.73 to 1 or 4.10s be better? Can you buy 3.73s for this year?

Thanks Tapper!

Mines a 1 ton with 3:54 ratio with up graded tranny and a plate....I pull a enclosed 44ft that has GVW at over 26001 lbs with no problems my trailer empty weights 9000 lbs

The weak point is the trannys not the rear end ratio these CTD's have the power to pull just don't lug the motor

I use to pull a 53ft gooseneck with 4 axles and my rig a one time had a 32700 GCVW on it once I got rolling everything purrred along.......But of course I don't baby my rig its a working truck and I'm not afraid to push its limits

You will have no problems as pappy says, I pull a similar trailer with same gear ratio and trust me it has no trouble at all on any grade. Goodluck,,Rick

I pull with 3.54's (often over 30,000#'s), and have never noticed that it is a problem at all. I know that you can't get 3.73's with a stock truck for that year, not sure if there is an aftermarket company that has any or not. I wouldn't worry about it though, the 3.54's will do just fine. Plus you'll definitly like the 3.54's when your not towing!

Hey Tapper WELCOME!! You can get the 3.54 ratio and you won't have a problem. Look at my sig and you will see that I have the same truck (basicaly). I pull a 26' fiver and a 16' boat at the same time and have out pulled and out ran class "A" motorhomes.
