Front driveshaft U-joint strap . . .

Hey folks,
I've been told by two part stores that they don't have a listing for the u-joint strap kit that goes on the front driveshaft. I was at the local CarQuest, and Auto Value and both looked for like 20 minutes and came up with no listing. When I bought the U-joint itself, the carquest listed 2 different part numbers. Of course, I needed the more expensive one, with inside snap rings that go to the axle side yoke, and outside snap rings for the shaft yoke . . . anyway, neither store lists a strap kit for that joint. I tried the strap that was for the other listed joint and it's too small.

I also just looked at napaonline and came up with nothing there.

What gives? Do I have some kind of special u-joint. I mean, it has a double cardan joint at the transfer case, and that different joint at the front axle, maybe someone did some swapping? I did put two new joints in the double cardan last spring, and that was not an issue for the NAPA to come up with . . . they had them in stock.

Maybe I need to go to the dealer? Does anyone have any experience with this?
I'd like to get this back together soon here as I'm headed back to Michigan to play in the sand in a few weeks.

Thanks,
Phill

The actual u-shaped strap that holds the u-joint caps into the yoke.
I threw the u-joint a few months back and I'm looking for a strap kit. It's a pretty standard part that they recommend changing every time you change a u-joint . . . I just can't find a part number for this truck.

Check out a good driveline shop that rebuilds them. If you need the part, they should have it.

If you go to an auto parts place, look for they 'help' parts section. Lots of odds and ends that commonly need replacement like trim fasteners and window handles. I have seen universal straps there. Dont know if the size is correct.
My truck has one on it and it doesnt look like the others.
Otherwise, a driveline shop would be the place to go.

Ran into this last summer when i replaced the u-joints. Go to your local dealer, that's what worked best for me. They needed my truck vin because there were 3 different front driveshafts options and found the proper one.
Cheers!
