I had to replace mine when I did my trans. There are a couple of different lengths. Mine took a 14.5" weld to weld. There's also a 16.5" available. maybe somebody stuck the wrong one in your truck at some point. I got a rebuilt one out of Kitchener, On. for a decent price. PM me if you want the website/email.

 

Latest news, i tried to remove the front d-s with the weight of the truck on his wheel, i had no luck.. There's no play on the split yoke. My 3 ton jack leak so i've been unable to use it.. I'll go back to see my mechanic so he can lift the truck and remove the d-s.. I measured from weld to weld ( on the tube ) i have 15" 1/2, strange measure.. I also measure the wheelbase. it's dead on .. 135" so that make me think that the truck has not been smached..

Good luck with it all. FWIW, I paid $350CAN for a complete rebuild from the Kitchener shop. The shop in town wanted $400+.
