Engine Identification Tag needed...
Engine Identification Tag needed...
The ID tag was located on my engine near the oil fill tube and I noticed it was starting to peel up one day..... now it is gone and I called Dodge and Cummins both with no luck to get a replacement tag. Does anyone have a 95 truck built in 8/94 with auto that could give me the info on the tag? Or lead me to a place where I can get a new one? I assume most trucks this year were the same and if I had the info I wouldn't need a new tag, just a copy of another. I think I need to know this to set timing, as I am going to play with that to get the best fuel mileage possible. Some people say 15 or 15.5 or 16 any one try different settings and check mileage?
I think if you take your vin to a dealer they can tell you everything about your truck. There is also a vin decoder on the web somewhere but it doesnt give all the info you will probably want.
Heres all you need. CPL 1549. Cummins can look up any part that you will ever need with it. The CPL tells them the emmissions package that your motor had from the factory and they can use it to back track any part number. They do prefer that you have the engine serial number though. I think that your timing is 12.5 degrees factory but you may want to do a search and see what ya find. I went through the same thing about a month ago on my 95. The tag fell off the timing case. I was told to take my VIN to dodge and see if they had a record of it. I havn't done it yet as it is an inconvenience to me and I can still get parts from Cummins. If you try let us know how it goes.
