egts high on my 97 5 spd, nothing seems to cool it down like it should
The truck in my sig gets up to 975 to 1000* at 75 on the highway with no trailer, i have moderate fueling and i thought my 62 turbo and ats exhaust manifold with true 4 inch exhaust should keep it cool, then i changed the timing from 15.5 to 17 degrees and that helped a little but there is still alot of pedal left when the egts get up to 1250 and there must be something i can do to keep this thing from melting down. Any ideas you guys have? Especially if you have a 215 pump what did you do to get your egts down?
I feel your pain.. I was considering Water injection. The only thing I would offer for advise would be a heat shield of some sort for your BHAF. That may help for about 50°F but not a huge change.
The 12V is not that great of a breather, try and keep your I/C clean and intake air cool as much as possible. What kind of boost are you running with your setup? I find I get over 40 psi and the temps go up really fast, and my turbo is smaller than yours.

boost can get up to 42 psi with about 1350 egts then i let off really quick, most of the time on the highway its around 8-10 psi but this turbo is not a fast spooler, i set it up this way in hopes i could tow 15k around locally but im afraid to put a trailer on it with any kind of weight until i lower egts a little more. What kind of egts do you get on the highway running 70 or 75??
Yes valves were just adjusted by me not long ago, dont think its that. What are you guys with 215 pumps and moderate fuel seeing on the egts when driving at 70 or 75 on the highway with no trailer????????
I'd say by the lift you mention, you are running bigger tires. WIth the 3.55 gears and laggy turbo your temps are going to be up there. I good set of towing twins would bring them down. With my setup I see between 750 and 1000 cruising temps depending on hills and wind and such. If I hit a decent grade at 120km/h it will climb right up there on the pyro in no time, but if I get it up to 140km/h plus it cools right down. It's all about rpm with these bigger turbos.
Pre turbo on the highway for me is around the 750°F to 800°F on a flat stretch with about 6-8 psi boost empty.
And with Brenden, the bigger turbo does like RPM.. mine is so small on the exhaust side, its the opposite. If I try to cruise at 2500 Rpm with any load, it gets hot fast. 140 KPH and I would be ringin off 1250 constantly.

The Members are giving you good advice on this.
You have some options but IMHO, you are about where I was at a few years ago with my 96' Dodge CTD 12 valve and I ended up going with water injection as Lil Dog told you. IMO, adding the water injection was a good choice and I like having it. I started with an early Snow System but now need much more water than that due to all my mods etc. (see signature).
I have the 215 pump on my 96' also. I would also add that if you can afford it a small twin turbo system would help too, but I know they can be pricey.
Anyway,.....good luck!

On the highway, I'm running about 800 degrees at 120 km/h. How tight is the turbo? I know my silver bullet was quite hard to turn by hand at first, and you definitely notice it in the spool up, and I would run 1100 degrees just maintaining speed up a hill in 5th.
What rpm does your turbo spool up at? I'm wondering if you have a leak thats driving up the temps?
