egt temps

Just back from camping and towing a 6500 travel trailer. I have a #6 plate and 4 inch exhaust, auto trans. I have just installed gauges egt, trans, boast. What temps should I be running on egts to be safe. I was trying to keep it at 900 or below it seems that there was alot of engine left. I was driving around 65 to 75 cruise up and down slight hills. Egt probe installed pre turbo. Take off from a dead stop to 60 was slow trying to keep it under 900 and boast was around 10 to 15. Egt temp gauge is color coded with green going to 1200. What would be a safe set of numbers to run?

seems like its running alittle hot for towing only 6500 with ur mods. I've got a 100 plate, 3gsk, banks turbo housing and wastegate, and was towing a 9k trailer last week and temps never got above 950 up hills with lots of throttle. It might be ur auto which makes the engine work harder so temps are up some. U can get up closer to 1200 and be ok, 1100 would be a good temp to stay at for constant temps if u needed to go faster. Most people have EGT gauges up to 1600 degrees, but those temps should only be hit for very short bursts.

You can run 1200 all day and not hurt it. Keeping RPM up when towing up a hill helps a great deal, especially with a stock tranny. Higher RPM equals lower EGT's due to much more air flow.

that sounds ok for your package mine weighs around 9000 lbs
and i can easily see 1400* if i keep my foot in it on hills and 900* cruising

Thanks for info, I thank I read the installation info backwards 900 post turbo and 1200 pre turbo. Guess I will try again with a new set of numbers and see what happens.
