driveline?
driveline?
so i just got through installing new u joints all around. driviline and front axles (not on the front driveline though) everything went together fine the spindle new wheel bearings and racists all turned out very nice. when i got to the driveline it wasnt lining up from when i took it out.
would it be ok to start the truck and let it turn to match up with the driveline or does it really make a big difference on how it goes in?
it felt like when i was driving it like the driviline would push up or it was a little tight something like that. any help...
TIA

Do you mean that the U-joints aren't phased with each other? Did you pull the slip joint apart and re-index it to get the u-joints to fit into the yokes?
It is very important to have the joints in phase to keep vibrations in check. With a single joint at each end of the shaft, the shaft will actually accelerate and decelerate twice per revolution. By having the joints in phase with each other, the transmission (or t-case) and the rear pinion spin at a constant velocity.
The easiest way to line it up is to throw the tranny in neutral after you block the tires. Or, you can put the rear axle on some stands so you can spin the tires.

ya, it's hard to tell what your talkin' about but there's no need to fire it up. just put the tcase in neutral and rotate away. all the slips on my driveshafts are keyed so they can't be put together out of phase.
i did just that. im sure the guy i had do it for me did a good job i trust him. but after i put it in neutral it went in fine i dont know why it took me so long to think about that hahaha
and ya same for mine the yoke only fits one way. thanks guys!
