what electronics need to be removed for a KDP fix?

I'm flying tomorrow to buy a '97. On my 1400 mile drive home, I'll be stopping at my parent's place so I can fix the KDP. I've never even looked into the engine compartment of a 2nd Gen truck, just a 1st Gen, so I have no idea what other items will need to be removed in order to tab my KDP. Is there a TPS on a '97 Auto, and if so does it need to be removed in order to tab the KDP? If so, what voltage are they supposed to be set at, and what is the correct way to set the voltage? Which wires do I measure across, and at what throttle positions do I set and verify voltage?

I'm kind of shooting in the dark due to a lack of '97 FSM, so I'm just trying to get all my info before the trip.

Thanks. Roy

you dont have to remove the tps. you have to remove the coolant & winshield washer bottles, serpentine belt, fan shroud and fan assembly, dampner pulley and sensor on the dampner pulley. i dont remember what that sensor is suppose to be shimmed at maybe someone will chime in and you have to remove the timing gear cover make sure you remember where all the bolts go they're all different sizes. its a pain in the but for just a little pin that may never fall out , but it makes you feel alot better after its done.

Exactly!

Yeah, the job is no big deal to me, it's just that if there are electronics have to be set to a certain setting upon reassembly, I need to know where to set them before starting the job.

i ordered the tst kit for $50 it came with instructions, a tab, longer bolt, permatex ultra grey to seal the case, and a crankshaft seal. i heard the crankshaft seal alone cost $30 so its not too bad of a deal.

The TST kit does seem to be a good deal. If you need to get a new gasket for the case cover, you will have to get it from Cummins. P/N is 3918673. About $25, or so from Cummins Great Plains.

I personally didn't go that route (tab) to stop mine. I tapped it back in and peened the hole. Replaced the crank seal and cover gasket. I already had the sealers and Loctite that were needed. Don't forget to check the case bolts while in there also. They can work loose and fall out also. I had to tighten mine and Loctite them.
