Front timing housing, mine runs down the drivers side of the aluminum casting.

Mine was covered in grime when I got the truck, had to wipe it off to find it.

I just bought a 97 and the data plate is mia, is there a place that you can buy new ones?

Sort of doubt you can buy a new plate but the dealer can give you the CPL number.
Most of the times when the plate is missing it's because the gear case has been replaced due to a loose dowel pin.

i guess im just screwed on the data plate, i dont have original motor nor do i know what it came out of....
