Cold Trans Problem
Cold Trans Problem
My auto trans seems to disengage and or slip anytime it sits overnite in cold temps. I drop it into reverse its engages then eventually just fades out. I put it in park a few times & it will rengage only to disappear again. After 5-10 min. it seems to function properly. This doesnt happen when temps stay above 40-50 degrees.
This happen to anyone else?
Re:Cold Trans Problem
Sounds to me like the internal seals in your trans are letting the fluid by when cold, as they warm up a bit, they swell back up creating a good seal. Get that truck to a trans shop before you burn up the trans. This is a sign of more trouble in the future, don't take any chances. It may still go forward fine, but still take the truck in to get looked at. It could be more costly if you wait.
Re:Cold Trans Problem
Hay mine doe''s the same thing an the trans was just rebuilt I'm told that some times the converter drains back over nite , just warn it up in nueteral for a few seconds an it will be fine thats what they tell me. Try it once
Bob
Re:Cold Trans Problem
I am no trans tech.. Not even close!
But that does not sound "normal" to me.
While I agree, you should let the truck warm up in "N" to help warm the tranny up as well, having it slip when cold just doesnt sound right.

I'd get it looked at before more damage occurs or you end up walking.

Just an opinion.
Rich.
Re:Cold Trans Problem
??? Hay DieselDaze I'm not saying that its right for the trans to act like that (myself) I was just being sarcastic about what the trans shop told me. Of course there the ones that rebuilt the thing.
Stoneman I would go get it checked out at a shop that you can trust the people at.
Sorry I didn't mean for anyone to take it wrong with the sarcasim. Get it checked out good.
Bob
Re:Cold Trans Problem
