hey, how would i go about getting the codes for the check engine light? my light has been on for a while. i thought it was the EGR sensor but i now think its not. my truck has 213,000 miles and the EGR sensor was cramed with soot, i cleaned it and put it back, got in and started it, the light was still on truck runs fine. how do i go about getting the codes and then reading them? will NAPA or auto zone have something to read them. how much would it cost? What other sensors can i check? is there any chance i broke the EGR sensor?

It is a typo where it says the method doesn't work for 97s
