changing pick-up hose in tank
changing pick-up hose in tank
My dad has a 94 12V and when he pushes the primer he gets nothing coming to the filter housing. I suggested he check his hoses in the tank. What is the easiest way to check it? Drop the tank or lift the bed. Thanks
Unless you have a engine crane and lots of room I would drop the tank. If the truck runs, I would run the tank down as far as possible and use a flllorjack and a good chunk of lumber or ratchet straps to lower it.
If you have some spare hands, a beam, tree branch, etc tilting the bed is easiest.
Remove the four bolts on the driver's side, loosen the four on the passenger.
disconnect the fuel fill and vent hoses, watch out for any wires.
Two people can lift one side while a third props it up.
You only need about 18" of clearance to get at the tank.
Advantages to tilting are the tank doesn't need to be almost empty, you can see what you're doing disconnecting the hoses and wiring and you avoid having the tank straps break when you bend them apart to drop the tank.
