A/C Pulley bearings
A/C Pulley bearings
The other day the bearings in the A/C pulley on my truck started screaming. It happens when the compressor is disengaged and the pulley is just freewheeling, not running the compressor. I've never had one apart so I don't know what's in there. Can the bearings be serviced, or do I need a whole new compressor/clutch/pulley assembly?
YOu can get a new bearing.
You need a special tool to hold the clutch still while you take the nut off. Then take two flat screw drivers on opposite sides and gently(and straight) pry off the clutch. Then take snap ring off and use a gear puller to pull the pulley off the shaft.
when removing the clutch, make sure you dont lose the shims (stack of small washers on shaft). the bearing is pressed into the rear of the pulley and is held in place by peening the edge over with a center punch. Take a die grinder and grind off the peens. press out, press in new bearing, peen edge over and reinstall. I have bearing number if you need it. I can get it tomorrow, its in the shop and im headed for bed.
let me know if you need more help.
