I am looking to replace my 92 and just happen to run across a clean 96 dually one owner with 194k miles. New to the 2nd gen stuff what do I need to look for? By the way, truck has a bone stock feel to it still has muffler and no smoke out the tail pipe. Older guy owned for a lawn care business. Doesn't even have a ball or fifth wheel hitch in the bed. One thing I have noticed is that my 92 has quite a bit more power with 3.55 gears, fuel turned, 4in exhaust and intake than this bone stock truck with 4.10 gears has. I really expected it to have more power than it does considering the gear ratio and a 215hp p pump even with it being a stock truck.
Any thoughts on this? Is there possibly not enough fuel pressure from the lift pump or...? Or does it just need livening up? thanks

 

Is it a stick?

Otherwise it is a 180 Hp, and with the stock converter, can seem REALLY like a slug until she gets locked up. Stock your 92 had 160 Hp I believe.

Other than the normal KDP and regular inspection ( If 4X4 check out the linkages/trackbar ), there really is a whole heck of a lot to get excited about.

Does he have a maintenance history? Things like pre-filter clean and fuel filter changes?
