Auto trans blew, where to buy rebuilt?
Auto trans blew, where to buy rebuilt?
Hi,
Well the auto trans quit this morning as I was leaving my driveway(Sorta considerate of it!). It was weak when I bought the truck 3 years and 50K miles ago and I had 3000 pounds in the bed when it died so I guess it was time. So where do I buy a rebuilt AT with upgraded valve body and torque converter? All ideas are welcome.
Thanks,

Make sure you trust the person rebuilding it. I had a rebuild done with valve body, tripple disc TC, I told the guy I wanted to pull a 12,000 lbs. horse trailer with ease. My first child was a '97 2500 SLT with TST #6 and 4" exhaust with automatic trans.
The transmission shop was a reputable 4x4 performance shop in my area. He rebuilt it once, did not do the cooler line right, leaked and burned up the clutches 4 hours from my house with a horse tailer.
Happened two more times. Got to the point where the warrenty ran out on the TC and I had to buy another one.
In the end The total price was close to putting in a BD or ATS Trans.
Trucks gone now. Got a '08 2500 SLT 6.7 magic carpet ride dream machine.

If I can ever afford to get , that's my choice .
Just lucky this one is still hanging in there .

I just installed a GB transmission (http://www.goerend.com) and absolutely LOVE it! I'm on a 99% stock truck and I highly recommend it. I will likely recommend it more when I put my #10 in!
W/ shipping I paid almost $4000. Triple disk converter and VB, stock shafts.

I've been on this and other boards for several years. I've read negative comments on every trans builder except Goerend Brothers. They are getting my hard earned money very soon. Best service period and they stand behind their products.
I did my research as well. After the 2nd dealer trans went out I had enough. Dropped close to 6grand on my full billet, built trans from Goerend that will most likely out last the truck. Customer service is excellent.
This coming wed. I will be at Goerend's shop having Dave's tranny installed (with a few upgrades). I looked at many forums and called many tranny builders over the last year and Dave Goerend stands at the top. I did install his triple converter this summer and went close to his shop so I took in the old converter (core charge). Dave took a good hour out of his day to show me his shop and talk about trannies and what I would need, NO ONE else did, I even had some shops tell me a stock trans would be just fine for me, "hey pal I got one now and it ain't fine so thanks but no thanks". Dave knows how to treat people, he is not a faceless corporation but a honest hardworking guy that will stand behind his product. A cheap stock trans may work for you but Dave's will last longer than 2 of them, do it once or do it twice (or more). I've heard quite a few bad stories about going cheap, be careful and good luck.
