I've run across a couple where the plug was galled on so bad that I knew something was going to break if if I kept on upping the torque on the breaker bar. I just removed the entire top to turn the star wheel on the hard ones rather than risk breaking something, most likely the housing.

I think it might be more related to the dissimilar materials, steel and aluminum, bonding together (galling) over time. Most likely the only reason Cummins put the plug there was for adjustment when the engine was new and never intended the star wheel to be adjusted again.

Went back out and pulled hard from a different angle without vice-grips and it did come loose. I agree with the gorrila idea!

yeah the first time I was taking mine off it took a few hard tries. I think the third time did it cause I went and bought a really nice set of T-grips, if nothing else it was a great excuse to add to my toolbox.

I did bust my finger open when the bolt broke loose tho haha

about a 1 foot long piece of 1/2" black pipe slid over the allen wrench works well.
