I thought i read something where they came with two diffrent pumps. or was this just due to the difference in the 12v and the 24v? thinking about buying a 98 12v.

I think ur mistaken

But ill clarify this for ya, THe 12 valve has a mechanical lift pump, and the big injector P pump on the top. The mechanical lift pump can be found right by the fuel filter housing and heater assembly on a 12 valve.

The 24 valve has a VP44 injector pump, and an electric lift pump too, i think somewhere along the same location lines as the 12V engine..

So both trucks have two lift pumps, you can however, get a Fuel Air Seperation System, (acronym FASS) or a pusher pump if you have a 24 valve tho to better fuel ur application... no need to do such thing with a 12 valve...

98 = 12v with P7100 mechanical injector pump, cam driven lift pump

98.5 = 24v with VP44 electronically controlled injector pump, block mounted electric lift pump
