96 12v White Smoke and wont rev

I just traded my car for a 96 12v. It ran like a champ. Last tuesday, it decided to die when i came to a stop. Started right back up but then it would not boost past 5psi and would not rev past prob 1800. Also blows pretty thick white smoke once it gets to that rpm. Went home, parked it. An hour later it ran fine again and did up until last night. Did the exact same thing. Went away like an hour or so later.

get up this morning and is doing it again. What can i check? Im a newbie in the diesel world! Thanks in advance guys!

Infidel's right. Check fuel pressure and OFV. Mine used to puke white smoke out until I replaced the OFV. Run's like a jaipped ape now.

Good advice above. Also have a look at the fuel shutdown solenoid on the side of the injection pump. Make sure it pulls all the way up when you start the truck. Occasionally they can bind and only pull up part way, then it only allows a small amount of fuel into the IP.

Big reason for binding besides a missing boot and gunked up solenoid is when people don't loosen the lower fifth bolt on the solenoid bracket when they mess with the plate.
They bend the bracket instead, then the solenoid binds.

Sorry i havent updated this! Found out the fuel pump wasnt getting power sometimes, so it obviously wouldnt pump any fuel! I could hook it straight to the battery bypassing the relay and it ran like it should. Rewired the relay and no problems!
