47RH torque converter question...
47RH torque converter question...
So I have a 94 3500 with a 47RH. I'm under the impression the torque converter gave up after 347000 miles. I don't pull anything giant and for the most part just drive the thing. A boat, Horse trailer, and fifth wheel once in a while but never on steep mountain roads. I might be all wet but do I need ant thing special when it comes to a torque converter? I see these thing for 1500.00 and I just don't see it for my usage. I'm thinking the stock one went just short of 350000 miles so why not go back to a stock one? And if I'm thinking right where is a good place to pick up a stock converter
When I did the one in Brownie, I had a local trans shop have one built with a slightly lower stall speed, 200 RPM's less IIRC.
It was somewhere around 300 bucks if I remember.... Does have to be a diesel converter though, core was brutal but you get it back.

The reason most change to a billet unit is to prevent warping of the front plate at high temps. I tow a fiver so I put one in long ago and modded the plate for more clutch pressure. Does well. If you don't tow probably not needed but it is much tighter also.
