Can anyone tell me what the trouble codes P1388 and P1389 in a 1996 dodge cummins 4x4 auto means? It has something to do with the asd circuit but i was wondering if anyone can expand?

 

No asd circuit (auto shut down) in a Cummins engine. You have gasser codes.
The trouble codes I know are all two digit numbers.

I had the codes pulled with a dbr tool. That is what it said. I guess it would be the same as the 42 by the code discription. What is the asd circuit?

 

It shows the ASD fault code on the list that you posted.........why is that?


How come my '98.5 wouldn't run when I had a ASD code in it? then ran when we jumped 12v directly to the ASD relay?

 

Don't know. If the Cummins option has a ASD relay and circuit this is the first I've heard of it.
If it's a fancy way of describing the shutdown solenoid it's also my first time hearing of it.

 

In 1996 they went to the 47RE trans. electronic controlled. I know that they have this system in 1996 and newer in the 12 valve. My computer threw these codes. I guess i was just trying to see if anyone else had had these and how they solved it. I got some specs from geno's garage to test the asd relay so i am going to try that. That should pin point if its the ASD relay or the PCM.

 

I just got the same codes today! Took my truck in to the tranny shop to get it looked at because it was doing 2nd gear starts. He said everything was fine in the tranny but he pulled a P1389 code from the pcm. Did you find anything out? Where is this relay??
