Injector pump

I am thinking about changing out my VP44 on my 2000 dodge 2500. Not having any problems yet but mileage is approaching 100,000 and I like to be ahead of the game. Leaning toward Blue Chip Diesel but there price is quite a lot more than others. Are they worth the price?

I personally think they are, but I don't know if I would do a pre-emptive strike unless I knew mine had run without fuel pressure.

You hear of some dying early, but lots of them run 2-300K before the original pump goes if properly fed and cared for.

You're one of the few who actually "wants" to spend that kinda money. I dont see a reason to replace something thats not giving you problems.

Not suure if I am going to do this now. I was going to sell mine to a friend who is having trouble with truck and charge him the core charge and order a quality rebuilt one for me then turn his old one in for the core. Now that I have his truck here I don't think his problems are his injector pump. It surges and misses like a gas engine would do it it had a bad spark plug or plug wire except it runs great under full acceleration and a heavy pull with you foot in it. Only does it when under initial acceleration and a light throttle. Going to look at the APPS and intake system first.

Well then thats not a bad idea, and it does sound like your friend has fueling problems. Has he pulled any codes? What truck does he have and whats the situation?

His is a 1999. I checked the APPS in the diagnosis that is described in Blue Chip Diesel's diagnosis and had little noticeable needle deflection. Only when I set the volt Ohm meter from the 20 volt scale to the 2.5 vol scale did I see the needle not move about half way up the pedal travel. I'm going to take the one off my truck and put it on his and drive it and see if that's the problem. I need to be right because this **** sensor is about $600.00. Of course if that isn't it then it is probably the computer on top of the injector pump.

Wes, if his APPS is bad the best replacement out there is a Timbo APPS and they are nowhere near $600!!!

I had gone through a few pumps one lasting only a few months so I had enough on junk pumps and went for a premium pump from blue chip all i can say it runs better than new. The low end torque is great and runs like a top.I dyno the truck with my fueling box off it made 320hp with the box on full it made 20hp more than before. Best punp to buy but its not cheap

I checked out the TimboAPPS. How can the dealer and NAPA charge what they do when this part is out there. This is unbelievable. I will call the owner tomorrow and I know he will want to order one. Thanks guys.

Wes, it is worth mentioning that the Timbo APPS is reported to be of higher quality than stock.

Well I had a little more time to spend on it today after finishing another job and what do I find, a Banks Ottomind power control box stuffed under the dash. Can I see a show of hands from those that think this is probably the problem. Now I will probably have to disconnect this unit and go back to factory to rule it out.

If you have any electronic devices adding power or manipulating something to do with the ECM and you're experiencing problems then its always highly suggested to disconnect that device and go back to stock to eliminate it as a culprit.

I just hope it doesn't take me half a day to get this back to the factory system, work is starting to pile up.

Update. I took the Banks Ottomind and disconnected the wiring harness from it where it connected to the factory sensors and reconnected all the factory connectors back onto the sensors and the truck runs great. So the problem was with the Banks unit. Not sure how old the unit was but the truck is pretty well beat up and not worth a replacement unit so the owner is just going to leave it disconnected.
